§ 45. Mr. Greenwayasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what guidance he issues to local authorities on the provision of ramps to their homes for disabled people; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. NewtonNo detailed advice on the provision of ramps has been given. However, there is a reference to them in the local authority building note No. 2 on residential accommodation for elderly people, to which attention was directed in local authority social services letter (75)19 dealing with residential accommodation for physically handicapped people. The code of practice for access for the disabled to buildings, published by the British Standards Institute in 1979, which also gives some information on ramps, has been brought to the attention of local authorities.
