§ Mr. Soamesasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will estimate the proportion of Argentine foreign debt held in British banks and other British creditors.
§ Mr. Ian Stewart[pursuant to his reply, 23 March 1984, c. 600.] Argentina's total external indebtedness is currently estimated at $43.6 billion. At end June 1983 bank lending by banks in the BIS reporting area to Argentina was $23 billion of which about 14 per cent. was accounted for by United Kingdom registered banks. Information about the share of Argentine debt held by other British creditors is not available centrally.
