asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many firms have announced redundancies in each year since 1979 (a) on Merseyside, (b) in Knowsley, (c) in Kirkby and (d) in Prescot; and how many were made redundant on each occasion.

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many young people aged 20 years or younger are currently unemployed in the Tottenham area; how many young people in the same area are on temporary employment and training schemes; and what percentages these figures represent.

The available information is as follows. On 12 January, the latest date for which an analysis by age is available, the number of unemployed claimants aged under 20 years in the Tottenham jobcentre area was 1,853. Figures for those aged 20 years are not separately analysed.

Statistics relating to temporary employment and training schemes are not separately available for Tottenham. The number of young people on the youth training scheme in the London borough of Haringey at the end of February was 532. In addition, 10 young people were in training under the youth opportunities programme.

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what was the number of women in (a) full-time and (b) part-time employment in the Leeds travel-to-work area at May 1979 and on the latest available figures.
