HC Deb 22 March 1984 vol 56 c543W
Mr. Hunter

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether the appropriate French authorities sought any advice from his Department or from the British embassy in Paris concerning apprehended disorder connected with the recent rugby football match in Paris between France and England; and what advice was given in this regard to the French authorities by the embassy or his Department.

Mr. Macfarlane

I have been asked to reply.

No. However, following the violence associated with the France v. England soccer match on Wednesday 29 February, I met a representative of the French embassy to explain my concern both about that violence and possible repercussions at the France v. England rugby football union international match on Saturday 3 March.
