asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the extent of the current British aid programme towards the Democratic Republic of Madagascar: —(a) in terms of involvement and financial expenditure there; and (b) in relation to the granting of assistance or scholarships to Malagasy students in this country.

We expect to spend about £350,000 in the current financial year. £25,000 is for the training of three students: the rest is for aircraft spares, two experts and subscription to sugar breeding stations.
