HC Deb 19 March 1984 vol 56 c347W
Mr. Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will publish figures to show at the latest available date the number registered as unemployed in Dundee by standard industrial classification order; and if he will show the percentage of total unemployed in the case of each group.

Mr. Allan Stewart

The information requested is not available. The industrial analysis of the unemployed was last completed in May 1982 and has since been discontinued. Estimates of unemployment by broad sector of industry groups are expected to be available for Scotland later this year from the 1983 labour force survey.

Mr. Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will give figures to show at the latest available date how many young people in Dundee: (a) under the age of 18 years and (b) under the age of 21 years have never been in employment since leaving school.

Mr. Allan Stewart

The information is not available in the precise form requested. At 9 February 1984 the numbers of school or student leavers who have not entered employment since completing full-time education and were claiming benefit in the Dundee Jobcentre area in the age bands of under 18 years, 18 years and 19 years and over were 915, 476 and 676 respectively.
