HC Deb 12 March 1984 vol 56 c25W
Mr. Soames

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what representations he has received from the Government of Sweden concerning acid deposition.

Mr. Waldegrave

My right hon. Friend has received a joint statement from the Environment Ministers of the five Nordic countries, expressing their concern about the recommendation made by the Royal Commission on environmental pollution in its tenth report, that the Central Electricity Generating Board should introduce sulphur dioxide emission abatement measures on a pilot basis over the next five year; and urging that the Government should agree to reduce total sulphur emissions by 30 per cent. by 1993. My right hon. Friend is considering his response to the Nordic statement.
