asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what percentage of sites of special scientific interest have been re-notified in (a) Orkney, (b) Shetland, and (c) Scotland.

The Nature Conservancy Council advises that as at 24 February it had renotified 17 per cent. of existing sites of special scientific interest in Orkney, 34 per cent. of existing SSSIs in Shetland and 18 per cent. of existing SSSIs in Scotland.
