HC Deb 07 March 1984 vol 55 c601W
29. Mr. John Carlisle

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what recent discussions have taken place between the Minister with responsibility for sport and the Football Association regarding crowd control and football hooliganism.

Mr. Macfarlane

I have regular discussions with the Football Association on this subject. My officials represent me on the liaison group which I set up in 1982 to co-ordinate arrangements to combat football hooliganism and which is currently chaired by the Football Association chairman. I met the chairman and his general secretary last Friday to discuss the events at the Francev. England match in Paris on Wednesday 29 February and have met the chairman on some 20 occasions since the spring of 1982.
