§ Mr. Kenneth ClarkeBy 31 October 1983, the 14 health regions in England had approved the premature retirement of 2,529 officers under arrangements arising out of the 1982 restructuring and forwarded these to the Department for certification. These were broken down into staff groups as follows:
Numbers Finance staff 200 Administrative and clerical (other than finance) 1,186 Medical staff 103 Dental staff 18 Nursing staff 763 Works staff 142 Other 117 The "other" staff consisted of a variety of staff groups including pharmaceutical, catering, domestic, professions supplementary to medicine and ancillary staff.
All the medical and dental staff and nursing staff were qualified.
