HC Deb 07 March 1984 vol 55 c606W
51. Mr. Ron Davies

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will give details of the amount of finance planned to be spent on civil defence in the water industry.

Mr. Waldegrave

During the coming financial year, 1984–85, water authorities and water companies in England and Wales plan to spend £950,000 on civil defence measures. About three quarters of the expenditure will be grant aided from central funds in accordance with regulations made under the Civil Defence Act 1948. Present measures are mainly concerned with the drawing up of contingency plans and with training.
