HC Deb 05 March 1984 vol 55 cc445-6W
Mr. Alton

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what central funding for health services has been made available to the Liverpool area health authority and its predecessors in each of the years from 1976 to date.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

Resource allocation to the Liverpool health authority is a matter for the Mersey health authority. For the period to 1982–83 the annual accounts submitted to the Department show total expenditure by the Liverpool authority on all services except payments to contractors providing family practitioner services, as follows:

£ million
1976–77 59.8
1977–78 66.5
1978–79 75.6
1979–80 90.7
1980–81 114.4
1981–82 124.1
1982–83 117.8

Note:

At the time of the 1982 NHS restructuring there were changes in responsibility, primarily the transfer of Rainhill hospital to a neighbourhood authority, for which the figures for years prior to 1982–83 have not been adjusted.
