HC Deb 01 March 1984 vol 55 cc333-4W
Mr. Alton

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether Her Majesty's Government have made any response to the European Economic Community Commission's proposed directive 6387/83 relating to the disposal of waste from the titanium dioxide industry.

Mr. Gow

My hon. Friend the Under-Secretary of State, the hon. Member for Bristol, West (Mr. Waldegrave) sent an explanatory memorandum on this proposal to the Scrutiny Committee on 27 July 1983. This set out the Government's immediate response.

The proposal has now been considered at meetings of the Council of Ministers' environment working party. The United Kingdom delegation has made it clear that major changes will be needed before a directive can be adopted.
