Mr. Parry

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs (1) what discussions Her Majesty's Government have had with the Government of Papua New Guinea concerning refugees from Indonesia seeking asylum; and if he will make a statement;

(2) what representations Her Majesty's Government have made to the United Nations High Commission for Refugees concerning the refugees from Indonesia now seeking asylum in Papua New Guinea; and if he will make a statement;

(3) what recent representations Her Majesty's Government have made to the Government of Indonesia concerning the refugees now seeking asylum in Papua New Guinea.

We have had no formal discussions on this subject with any of the parties involved. We have not been asked by either Government or by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to intervene. We are, however, continuing to watch the situation.
