§ Mr. Kilroy-Silkasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many mentally disordered prisoners were discharged in 1983.
§ Mr. HurdDuring 1983 there were 1,643 persons considered by prison medical officers to be mentally disordered within the meaning of the Mental Health Acts 1959 and 1983 who left prison department custody. This figure included sentenced inmates who may have completed their sentence or been transferred to hospital and unsentenced inmates who may have been transferred to hospital, granted bail, acquitted, given a non-custodial sentence or made subject to a hospital order.
§ Mr. Kilroy-Silkasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what are the locations, ages, sex and disorders of those (a) juvenile, (b) young offenders and (c) women who are mentally disordered in penal establishments at the latest available date; how long each has been held in custody; and which regional health authority is responsible for providing a hospital bed.
§ Mr. HurdInformation is as follows for 31 March 1984 (the latest date for which figures are available) on the women and young offenders in prison department establishments whom the prison medical officers considered to be mentally disordered within the meaning of the Mental Health Act 1983. There were no such juveniles. Details of the time each had been held in custody and the regional health authority concerned could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.
