Mr. Knox

asked the Secretary of State for Transport by how much the rate of vehicle excise duty has risen or fallen in real terms in each year since 1977 for all categories of vehicle.

There are at present over 400 annual vehicle excise duty rates, and the vehicle categories to which they apply have changed substantially over the years since 1977. The following table has therefore been compiled for a selection of vehicle categories amenable to comparison over this period.
