HC Deb 25 July 1984 vol 64 cc639-40W
Mr. Amess

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many parking tickets have been issued in the Greater London area and in the rest of Great Britain since 1979; and what percentage has been paid in full.

Mr. Hurd

The information available relates to fixed penalty notices issued for waiting and parking offences in England and Wales and the metropolitan police district. Information for 1979 is given in table 19 of "Offences Relating to Motor Vehicles, England and Wales 1979" (Cmnd. 8807). Information for the years 1980 to 1982 is given in the supplementary tables to the annual statistical bulletin "Offences Relating to Motor Vehicles, England and Wales". Copies of these publications are in the Library of the House. Information for 1983 is not yet available for England and Wales, but for the Metropolitan police district was given in appendix 5(viii) of the report of the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis for 1983. Information collected centrally about the payment of fixed penalty notices does not separately distinguish the type of offence, but waiting and parking offences account for the vast majority of the total. Information on the payment of all fixed penalty notices is published for England and Wales in the statistical bulletin already referred to (table 4 of the issue for 1982) and for the Metropolitan police district in the supplementary tables (table 21 of the issues for 1982).
