HC Deb 25 July 1984 vol 64 cc631-2W
Mr. Maples

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many primary and secondary school teachers have completed the micro-electronics education programme's in-service training courses.

Sir Keith Joseph

Precise figures are not available, but it is estimated that at least 55,000 primary and secondary school teachers have completed in-service courses under the micro-electronics education programme. These courses are additional to the familiarity courses associated with the micros in schools schemes.

Mr. Maples

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether his Department has taken any steps towards providing computer materials for staff engaged in the initial training of primary and secondary school teaching.

Sir Keith Joseph

Yes. The Government have provided a considerable range of hardware, software and other materials for staff engaged in the initial training of primary and secondary school teachers.
