HC Deb 23 July 1984 vol 64 c514W
Mr. Body

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he has had any discussions with the Commission of the European Economic Community about the countries to which any surplus of grain from the current year's harvest in the United Kingdom may be exported; whether he can give the names of the countries that have so far shown an interest in buying United Kingdom surplus grain; and to what extent negotiations have taken place.

Mr. MacGregor

No such discussions have been held with the Commission.

The export of grain from the United Kingdom is undertaken through normal commercial channels, although in discussion with representatives of grain importing countries the Government exchange information on United Kingdom grain availability and the needs of the importer. Any useful information gathered is passed to the appropriate United Kingdom trade associations.
