HC Deb 23 July 1984 vol 64 c514W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if, in formulating his policies regarding food, he will take account of health issues in the production, advertising, labelling and pricing of food.

Mrs. Fenner

The chief medical officer at the Department of Health and Social Security is our principal adviser on health matters and there is day-to-day contact between my Department and the Department of Health and Social Security.

Advice on matters relating to health and diet is taken fully into account in considering food policy. The Government have recently welcomed the report on diet and cardiovascular disease prepared by the chief medical officer's committee on medical aspects of food policy (COMA) and has already initiated discussion on its main recommendations.
