HC Deb 09 July 1984 vol 63 c393W
Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the number of hospital beds in Scotland not in service because of lack of nursing staff.

Mr. John MacKay

Beds in individual hospitals may from time to time be out of service for a number of reasons. Information is not held centrally on such matters, which may reflect staff availability, levels of demand for particular services, or other factors relevant to the local management of resources. Nursing staff levels are however higher than ever before.
