HC Deb 09 July 1984 vol 63 c376W
23. Mrs. Dunwoody

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what account he took, in approving the relevant investment proposals concerning resignalling, of the consequential need to close Crewe station for seven weeks.

Mr. David Mitchell

The Crewe scheme, involving major track relaying, resignalling and platform reconstruction, was decided upon by British Rail itself. I understand that BR has adopted the approach which will cause least overall disruption to services and that it is taking steps to ensure that customers suffer as little inconvenience as possible while the station is closed.
