§ Mr. NewtonFamily Income Supplement is paid to families with children where the total income, not merely from earnings, is below prescribed levels.
At the end of December 1983, the number of families in receipt of FIS was 201,000. The most recent estimate of take-up of entitlement relates to 1981.82 when it was about half.
