asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many employees in his Department are currently taking part in job-share schemes.

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many vacancies in his Department have been filled through the job release scheme in each of the last three years for which figures are available.

During the years 1981, 1982 and 1983, eight, seven and three vacancies, respectively.

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many employees in his Department are currently allowed day release facilities or other assistance to encourage them to continue their education.

Every encouragement is given to the staff of our Department to continue their education, and 56 are currently being sponsored for a variety of courses.

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what has been the total cost to his Department of assistance given to employees to encourage them to continue their education in each of the last three years for which figures are available.

The cost of fees and books met by our Department for staff wishing to continue their education for each of the last three years was as follows:

The related costs in terms of salary, travel and subsistence could be obtained only at a disproportionate cost.
