HC Deb 26 January 1984 vol 52 cc628-9W
Mr. Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many young people are currently serving youth custody sentences imposed by West Yorkshire courts; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Hurd

The information available relates to the court first committing the offender to custody, which is not necessarily the same as the court imposing the sentence and is incomplete. About 270 youth custody trainees in prison department establishments in England and Wales on 30 November 1983 were known to have been first committed to custody by a court in west Yorkshire.
