HC Deb 26 January 1984 vol 52 c707W
Mr. John Carlisle

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he intends to attend in his official capacity any of the remaining international rugby union matches at Cardiff this season.

Mr. Nicholas Edwards

Owing to prior commitments I had already declined an invitation to the international matches at Cardiff this season but following the refusal of the Welsh rugby authorities to comply with the Government's request not to proceed with the recent tour of Wales by a representative youth team from South Africa, contrary to the spirit of the Gleneagles agreement, which this Government support, it was decided that in any case neither I nor my hon. Friend the Minister of State should attend any rugby internationals at Cardiff this season.
