asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will estimate the likely impact on employment of the measures announced on regional policy by Her Majesty's Government.

Mr. Man Clark

The proposals discussed in the White Paper "Regional Industrial Development" (Cmnd. 9111) aim to make regional policy more economic and effective in creating genuine jobs. The Government also recognise that there is a social case for reducing, over the long term, regional imbalances in employment opportunities.
