HC Deb 29 February 1984 vol 55 c173W
23. Mr. Conway

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will make a statement on his recent visit to the United States of America.

Mr. Tebbit

I had useful talks with senior members of the United States Administration and Congress and with business leaders on a range of issues. My main object was to meet members of the Administration and Legislature and to encourage the United States to stand firm against protectionist pressures. I also expressed the Government's deep concern over extraterritorial assertions of United States jurisdiction and the serious difficulties, both political and commercial that these could create and our concern over proposed unitary tax systems.
