asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what was the level of financial support given to the Engineering Council by his Department to date and what is the proposed level of support for the financial year 1984–85.

To date the Engineering Council has received payments of grant in aid amounting to £1,517,000. Subject to Parliament providing the necessary funds the expected level of support for the 1984–85 financial year is £975,000.
