HC Deb 29 February 1984 vol 55 c172W
19. Mr. Parry

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what assistance his Department has given to the British American Tobacco company concerning the proposed loss of 1,100 jobs at its Liverpool factory.

Mr. Kenneth Baker

It is up to the company to approach the Department if it feels it has a proposal which could fit into various industrial support schemes. I have to say, however, that these cannot be used to alter commercial decisions taken by companies.
