§ Mr. BrookeLetcombe laboratory is a research institute of the Agricultural and Food Research Council, which receives grant-in-aid from the Department of Education and Science. Up to 24 February, the Department had received 20 letters referring to the council's intention to close the laboratory as part of its programme of restructuring to accommodate to reduced income and the need to direct resources to new work.
