HL Deb 27 February 1984 vol 448 c1145WA
Lord Monson

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Why the dimensions of reply-paid OHMS envelopes addressed to the Collector of Taxes, Cumbernauld, are such that payslips cannot he inserted without folding, despite the fact that taxpayers are requested to return the payslips unfolded.

Lord Cockfield

The envelopes provided by the Inland Revenue were designed to permit enclosure of an unfolded payslip. Unfortunately variations in the manufacture of the envelopes and in the guillotining of the payslips do on occasions give rise to the difficulties mentioned. I am sorry that this should be so. The Inland Revenue are planning to meet the point by introducing a smaller payslip as soon as possible.
