HC Deb 23 February 1984 vol 54 c602W
Mr. Lewis Stevens

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, in cases where pirate radio stations have been fined for specific offences and then resume broadcasting, if Her Majesty's Government will seek to obtain injunctions against such operations.

Mr. Alexander Fletcher

Recourse to civil proceedings — which would require the approval of the Attorney-General — would not be appropriate unless prosecutions under the Wireless Telegraphy Act 1949 had proved ineffective in preventing a particular offender continuing to broadcast without a licence.
