§ 57. Mr. Rymanasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when he expects to introduce legislation to implement the recommendations of the Royal Commission on gambling, Cmnd. 7200, with respect to the horse racing industry.
§ Mr. HurdWe have no plans to do so. The main recommendation in respect of horse racing involved the establishment of a British horse racing authority and my right hon. and learned Friend's predecessor announced in 1979 that he had concluded that such an authority was not needed. He expressed the hope that the racing industry would be able to reach agreement to establish a consultative body to represent all sectors of the racing industry. This has since led to the establishment of the Horseracing Advisory Council.
