§ Mr. Ernie Ross
asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether those local authorities which are intending to establish emergency control centres are ensuring that the design of those centres includes provision for containing fallout, fire and blast damage.
§ Mr. Speller
asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what role he expects industry to play in civil defence; and how this would be funded.
§ Mr. Hurd
Industry would have an important role to play in sustaining the country during conventional war, and in assisting in survival and recovery after nuclear war. Some aspects of industrial emergency planning are eligible under the Civil Defence Act 1948 for "due functioning" grant from the Government.
