HC Deb 15 February 1984 vol 54 c190W
Mr. Hannam

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the estimated number of registered charities that have failed to submit annual accounts to the Charity Commission for the last five years where they have such an obligation under the Charities Act 1960.

Mr. Mellor

The register of charities held by the Charity Commission does not indicate separately those charities required to submit annual accounts and the information could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.

Mr. Hannam

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many charities submit annual accounts, whether it be voluntary or compulsory, to the Charity Commissioners.

Mr. Mellor

I am informed that in 1983 the Charity Commission estimates that it received accounts from between 10,000 and 11,000 charities.
