asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what representations he has received from the London borough of Southwark in response to his White Paper, Cmnd. 9063, "Streamlining the Cities"; and whether they were in favour of, or against, abolition of the Greater London council.

I have received representations from all these bodies expressing various points of view on our proposals. However, the Merseyside chamber of commerce, and the Manchester chamber of commerce and industry expressed no views on the abolition of the Greater London council.
