HC Deb 09 February 1984 vol 53 c695W
Mr. Skinner

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what consideration his Department is giving to the Cycling Council of Great Britain's survey on accidents and sentencing policy; and whether he will implement the council's recommendations.

Mr. Mellor

We have considered the council's reasoned and constructive paper very carefully, and replied to the council's secretary on 31 January explaining that we cannot properly comment on individual sentencing decisions, but there are substantial penalties available to the courts for use in accordance with their assessment of the full facts of any particular case, an the police devote considerable resources to the enforcement of road traffic law.
