§ 37. Mr. Leightonasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what are his priorities in public sector higher education.
§ Mr. Peter BrookeMy right hon. Friend expects the public sector of higher education to seek to use available resources to best effect, to provide a high standard of courses for those qualified and willing to attend and to help meet the needs of the economy for highly qualified manpower and applied research. He expects courses in this sector to be predominantly vocational or professional and, with due regard to economy, to meet demand for part-time and sub-degree work. To these ends he receives advice from the national advisory body for local authority higher education.
