asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many cardiologists there are; and what is their distribution across the regional health authorities.

At 30 September 1983 there were 128 consultants (including senior Hospital Medical Officers with allowance) in the specialty of cardiology in England. Their distribution across regional health authorities is shown in the following table. In addition there are a number of consultant physicians with a special interest in cardiology, but details are not available centrally.
