HC Deb 06 February 1984 vol 53 c448W
44. Mr. Ron Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Transport how many line closure proposals under the Transport Acts 1962 and 1968 are currently being considered by transport users' consultative committees.

Mr. David Mitchell

Under the Transport Acts 1962 and 1968, the transport users' consultative committees are required to report to my right hon. Friend on certain aspects of proposals to withdraw railway services from railway passenger lines or stations, where there are objections from users. At present there are six proposals involving British Rail line closures at various stages in the statutory procedures.
