asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what was the volume and value of imports of roofing slates from (a) France and (b) Spain into the United Kingdom in each of the last five years.

In the period January to October 1983, exports to the rest of the European Community were valued at £3.2 million fob. This represents a decrease of about one third of the corresponding figure for 1982 of £4.7 million fob.
