HC Deb 01 February 1984 vol 53 c229W
Mr. Latham

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether any recent representations have been made by Her Majesty's Government, whether directly or through the United Nations Organisation, to the authorities in Iran relating to the treatment in that country of adherents to the Baha'i faith; and what response has been obtained.

Mr. Luce

We have made known to the Iranian Government our deep concern over the treatment of the Baha'is. Continuing concern over human rights violations in Iran was also expressed by the European Community Presidency at the United Nations in December. The Iranian Government have, however, maintained that no Baha'is have been persecuted for the beliefs.
