HC Deb 20 December 1984 vol 70 c305W
Mr. Grylls

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what discussions he has had regarding the likely effects on the investment programmes of the research-based pharmaceutical industry of his proposals to limit drugs prescribable on the National Health Service.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

I refer my hon. Friend to my reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Eastleigh (Sir D. Price) on 18 December, at column152.

Mr. David Howell

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will publish a list of those medicines on his provisional list of drugs which are to be no longer prescribed under the National Health Service which do not have a generic alternative.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

We will not finally decide which drugs will no longer be prescribable at public expense through the National Health Service until after our consultation with the medical and pharmaceutical professions, and the drugs industry, is complete.
