Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will list those sites of special scientific interest in Wales, and specify those which have been damaged or destroyed by pesticides since 1981.

There are 561 sites of special scientific interest in Wales. I will write to the hon. Gentleman with details. The Nature Conservancy Council advise that no notified sites in Wales have been damaged or destroyed by pesticides since 1981.

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will estimate the expenditure incurred, by county, in Wales on the the management of sites of special scientific interest during each year of operation of the Wildlife and Countryside Act.

The Nature Conservancy Council has identified seven such sites in Wales which have been damaged or destroyed since the provisions of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 came into force. I shall write to the hon. Gentleman with the details.
