HL Deb 18 December 1984 vol 458 c637WA
Lord Melchett

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the proposed level of expenditure on Arterial Land Drainage and Flood Alleviation Schemes in Northern Ireland in 1985; what proportion of this expenditure will be capital expenditure; what will be the level of grant-aid available from public funds for capital projects; and what proportion of this grant-aid they expect to be spent to produce agricultural benefits.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Northern Ireland Office (Lord Lyell)

£9.5 million in 1985–86 of which £5.84 million will be capital expenditure. In Northern Ireland expenditure on arterial drainage and flood protection is funded by central Government. Expenditure on capital projects will be £5.13 million, of which something under 50 per cent. will produce agricultural benefits; the remainder will be spent on urban schemes.
