HC Deb 13 December 1984 vol 69 c554W
Mr. Rost

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will make a statement on the proposed sale by the British Steel Corporation of its Stanton and Staveley works.

Mr. Butcher

My right hon. Friend announced on 5 December 1984 that he had decided, on the information before him and in accordance with the recommendation of the Director-General of Fair Trading, not to refer the proposed acquisition of Stanton and Staveley Ltd. by la Compagnie de Saint Gobain to the Monopolies and Mergers Commission under the provisions of the Fair Trading Act 1973.
