asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what were the number and percentage of employees in employment in each of the four main sectors in Dundee in 1975; what are the corresponding figures for the latest available date; and what are the corresponding figures for Scotland.

The information is not available in the precise form requested and could be made available for 1965 only at disproportionate cost. However, the following table shows for Dundee jobcentre area and for Scotland the median length of unemployment of:

  1. (a) registrants remaining unemployed at the October count in 1980, 1981 and 1982 and claimants remaining unemployed at the October count in 1983 and 1984; and
  2. (b) claimants who had completed a spell of unemployment during the 12 months up to the October count in 1983 and 1984.
