HC Deb 11 December 1984 vol 69 c420W
Mr. Donald Stewart

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what progress has been made with tests on Gruinard Island to investigate the feasibility of decontaminating the island.

Mr. Lee

Possible methods of decontaminating affected areas of Gruinard Island, including the question of potential effectiveness and cost, remain under careful review. A further visit was made to the island in July 1984 and initial analysis of the date obtained supports previous encouraging results. However, further work is required before a decision on decontamination can be considered and it is not yet possible to say when that will be.
