In view of the continuing fall in pupil numbers, the Government's expenditure plans envisage a reduction in the number of teachers employed by local education authorities in England next year. The Department's paper "Schoolteacher Numbers and Deployment in the Longer Term" discusses the prospects for the next decade. I am sending a copy to my hon. Friend.
